The project describes a small garden-house for a famous chinese wood-artist in Beijing. The donut-like form was inspired by a cross section of a treetrunk and is featuring a courtyard-like space in its center.
The daily routine of the artist gets in a very direct way translated into the program of the house, which expresses its outer appearance as well.
One area of the house arches up to let natural sunlight into the basement of the house. The lifted part faces toward the South and inhabits the masterbedroom and offers a great view over the yard.
Movable louvers on the facade provide enough visual to the outside, while protecting from direct sunlight and unwanted insights.
